Principle of the Test
The SA Scientific RSV Alert Test utilizes a pair of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) specific antibodies in an immunochromatographic sandwich assay. The reaction between a positive sample and the colored particle-conjugated antibody forms a complex that migrates along the membrane. An immobilized capture antibody will form a colored line at the S (specimen) area upon reacting with the colored complex. An internal control line C (control) area is built-in to assure that the test has been carried out correctly.
What is RSV?
Respiratory syncytial (sin-SISH-uhl) virus, or RSV, is a common respiratory virus that usually causes mild, cold-like symptoms. Most people recover in a week or two, but RSV can be serious, especially for infants and older adults. RSV is the most common cause of bronchiolitis (inflammation of the small airways in the lung) and pneumonia (infection of the lungs) in children younger than 1 year of age in the United States.
More information about RSV is available at the CDC-Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
