Accutest Nitrazine pH Paper Overview

Accutest® PF418 Nitrazine Phenaphthazine Paper is a CLIA-waived indicator paper intended for the in vitro, semi-quantitative determination of body-fluid pH from 4.5 to 7.5. It provides instant visual readings at 0.5 pH intervals by comparing the test paper with the color chart printed on the dispenser. Each kit contains one 15-foot × 1/4-inch roll and provides approximately 100 tests.

The product is widely used by hospitals and healthcare professionals when evaluating the possible presence of amniotic fluid in vaginal secretions during late-term pregnancy. A pH result must be considered together with other laboratory and clinical findings and should not be used by itself to make a final diagnosis.

How to Use Accutest pH Paper

Collect the specimen
Collect a fresh sample in a clean receptacle according to the facility’s specimen-collection procedure.

Tear off a strip
Tear approximately two inches of test paper from the roll.

Dip the paper
Dip the test-paper strip into the sample.

Compare immediately
Immediately compare the reacted strip with the dispenser’s color chart. The closest color match indicates the resulting pH.

Lighting matters: For greatest accuracy, perform the color comparison under a combination of fluorescent light and daylight. The untreated paper’s base color can vary from tan to olive green between lots without affecting the accuracy of the pH reading.

Clinical Interpretation

Accutest Phenaphthazine Paper reports a semi-quantitative pH value based on the closest color-chart match. The paper may support professional assessment when amniotic fluid is suspected in vaginal secretions during late-term pregnancy, but the pH result is not diagnostic by itself.

Evaluate the result together with other laboratory and clinical findings. Follow the healthcare facility’s testing, quality-control, specimen-handling and patient-evaluation procedures.

Storage, Shelf Life and Quality Control

Room-temperature storage
Store at room temperature in a dry, protected area away from direct sunlight.

Protect the paper
Avoid excess heat, prolonged sunlight and exposure to acid or alkaline fumes.

Observe the expiration date
Use unopened paper by the expiration date printed on the packaging. Once opened, the product insert lists an approximate six-month shelf life.

QC guidance included
Unopened, unexpired rolls and rolls open fewer than 30 days do not require additional QC under the insert’s stated procedure. Rolls open more than 30 days may be checked with suitable NIST-traceable buffers.

To accomplish this, we use the best-in-class security tools and practices to maintain a high level of security at Stripe.

HTTPS and HSTS for secure connections

Stripe forces HTTPS for all services using TLS (SSL), including our public website and the Dashboard to ensure secure connections:

  • Stripe.js is served only over TLS.
  • Stripe’s official libraries connect to Stripe’s servers over TLS and verify TLS certificates on each connection.

We regularly audit the details of our implementation, including the certificates we serve, the certificate authorities we use, and the ciphers we support. We use HSTS to ensure that browsers interact with Stripe only over HTTPS. Stripe is also on the HSTS preloaded lists for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Sensitive data and communication encryption

All card numbers are encrypted at rest with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. None of Stripe’s internal servers and daemons can obtain plain text card numbers but can request that cards are sent to a service provider on a static allowlist. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in a separate hosting environment, and doesn’t share any credentials with Stripe’s primary services including our API and website.
