Important: This test detects elevated FSH but does not independently diagnose menopause or perimenopause. Test results should be considered together with symptoms, menstrual history and guidance from a healthcare professional.

How the Menopause Test Works

Follicle-stimulating hormone is produced by the pituitary gland and helps regulate reproductive processes. As ovarian function decreases during the menopause transition, FSH levels may rise. The Instant-View Menopause Test uses antibodies specific to FSH to determine whether elevated FSH is present in a urine sample.

How to Use the Test

Remove the test device from its foil pouch and remove the cap.

Hold the absorbent wick in the urine stream for approximately 10 seconds.

Replace the cap and place the test on a clean, flat surface.

Read the result at five minutes. Do not interpret the result after 10 minutes.

Follow the complete package-insert instructions before testing. Avoid drinking large amounts of liquid for 30 minutes before taking the test because excess liquid may dilute the urine sample.

Understanding the Results

Positive: Both the control line and test line appear. A faint test line is still considered positive.

Negative: Only the control line appears in the result window.

Invalid: No control line appears. Repeat the procedure with a new test device.

Next step: Discuss positive, uncertain or persistent results and symptoms with a healthcare professional.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Instant-View Menopause Test measure?

It qualitatively detects follicle-stimulating hormone, or FSH, in urine at a sensitivity of 40 mIU/mL. Elevated FSH may be associated with the transition into menopause.

Does a positive result confirm menopause?

No. A positive result indicates elevated FSH, which may be associated with menopause or perimenopause. The result should be evaluated together with your symptoms and medical history by a healthcare professional.

How quickly are results available?

Read the result at five minutes. A strong positive may become visible within two to three minutes, but the full five-minute development time should be allowed. Do not interpret results after 10 minutes.

When should I take the test?

The package insert states that the test may be performed at any time of day. Avoid drinking large amounts of liquid for approximately 30 minutes before testing because this may dilute the urine.

What does a faint test line mean?

According to the package insert, a faint test line is still considered a positive result.

How accurate is the Instant-View Menopause Test?

The package insert reports greater than 99% agreement in a laboratory comparison study. However, the test detects elevated FSH and should not be used by itself to diagnose menopause or perimenopause.

What should I do if the result is negative but I have symptoms?

A negative result does not necessarily rule out perimenopause or menopause. Repeat the test with a new device and fresh urine if appropriate, and discuss persistent symptoms with your healthcare professional.

Can this test determine whether I can become pregnant?

No. This test should not be used to determine fertility, pregnancy status or whether contraception is still needed.

Can hormone medications affect the result?

Oral or patch contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, estrogen supplements and certain fertility treatments may affect FSH test results. Consult a healthcare professional if you have questions about medications or treatment.

How many tests are included?

Each kit contains two single-use Instant-View Menopause FSH midstream test devices.

What is the shelf life?

The test has a shelf life of up to 24 months from the date of manufacture. Always check the expiration date printed on the product packaging before use.

Security at Stripe: Learn how Stripe handles security.

A PCI-certified auditor has audited Stripe. We’re a certified PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. To accomplish this, we use the best-in-class security tools and practices to maintain a high level of security at Stripe.

HTTPS and HSTS for secure connections

Stripe forces HTTPS for all services using TLS (SSL), including our public website and the Dashboard to ensure secure connections:

  • Stripe.js is served only over TLS.
  • Stripe’s official libraries connect to Stripe’s servers over TLS and verify TLS certificates on each connection.

We regularly audit the details of our implementation, including the certificates we serve, the certificate authorities we use, and the ciphers we support. We use HSTS to ensure that browsers interact with Stripe only over HTTPS. Stripe is also on the HSTS preloaded lists for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.

Sensitive data and communication encryption

All card numbers are encrypted at rest with AES-256. Decryption keys are stored on separate machines. None of Stripe’s internal servers and daemons can obtain plain text card numbers but can request that cards are sent to a service provider on a static allowlist. Stripe’s infrastructure for storing, decrypting, and transmitting card numbers runs in a separate hosting environment, and doesn’t share any credentials with Stripe’s primary services including our API and website.
