Accutest Uriscreen Controls Overview
The Accutest Uriscreen Quality Control Kit provides negative and positive controls for the Accutest Uriscreen Rapid UTI Screen Test. The negative-control solution substitutes for normal urine and should not generate foam in the Uriscreen procedure. The positive-control disc contains catalase-producing material and should generate the positive foam reaction described in the control insert.
This is a quality-control set for use with the Accutest Uriscreen testing system. It is not the Uriscreen diagnostic test kit and is not intended to test a patient specimen by itself.

Quality-Control Procedure Summary
Prepare the tubes: Transfer 1.5-2 mL of negative-control solution into each of two Uriscreen test tubes containing reagent powder. Label one tube as the negative control.
Prepare the positive control: Using forceps, place one impregnated disc into the second tube and label that tube as the positive control.
Add peroxide: Add 4 drops of Uriscreen 10% hydrogen-peroxide solution to each tube. Mix gently for 10 seconds without producing foam, until the solution turns blue and most of the reagent has dissolved.
Observe: Check for foam formation 2 minutes after adding the hydrogen-peroxide solution.
This procedure summary does not replace the manufacturer control insert. Use a new unopened vial of negative-control solution for each control test, open it immediately before use, and follow the current insert supplied with the product.
Interpreting the Control Results
Acceptable positive control: Foam forms at least enough to create a complete, continuous ring or layer on the liquid surface along the test-tube walls.
Acceptable negative control: No foam forms.
Unexpected control result: Repeat the test. If the repeat controls still do not produce the proper results, do not use the tested Uriscreen kit.
