Specimen-Validity Indicators
This cup includes three semi-quantitative specimen-validity indicators. Compare the validity-test pads with the color chart supplied with the product according to the timing instructions in the package insert.
Evaluates whether the urine specimen’s acidity or alkalinity is within the expected range.
Screens for the possible presence of oxidizing agents in the urine specimen.
Provides information about urine concentration and may help identify an unusually diluted specimen.
An abnormal validity-indicator result does not by itself prove that a specimen was intentionally adulterated. Evaluate unusual results according to your testing policy and applicable requirements.
How to Perform the Test
- Allow the sealed test cup to reach room temperature before testing.
- Open the package and label the cup with the required donor information.
- Open the lid and collect the urine specimen directly into the test cup.
- Collect between 30 mL and 110 mL of urine, following the markings on the cup.
- Close the lid securely and return the cup to the collection official.
- Remove the label covering the drug-test results.
- Interpret the specimen-validity indicators according to the supplied color chart and package insert.
- Read the drug-screening results at 5 minutes.
- Do not interpret the drug-screening results after 10 minutes.
Understanding the Drug-Screening Results
Negative: A control line and a test line appear. Any visible test line, including a faint line, should be interpreted as negative.
Preliminary positive: A control line appears, but no test line appears for the applicable drug.
Invalid: The control line does not appear. Review the procedure and repeat the test with a new cup.
